What I Wore for 50s

The weather was beautiful, in the 50s, so time to bring out the light outerwear. I've had this jacket for quite a while, but couldn't really find a way to use it. But I think it works great with my skirt from H&M. Although, I've also found a great black moto jacket at Target, that I can't wait to try out for the springier days. You'll be seeing that jacket soon!

This Makes Me Happy

We just got this lovely letter "M" in the mail, and it has made us so happy in the house. My daughter made the honor roll, so she lettered! If she makes it again she will get pins for the letter. I know she had gotten straight A's but I didn't realize they did the letter thing for the honor roll. I guess I thought that was a thing of the past. Anyway, she really deserved it! And it made us feel even more confident in our decision to put her in the online public school.

Here she is at her desk, she was interviewing me for a school project, which I thought was kind of fun. Congrats, honey!

The Big Yawn

Okay, believe it or not, this is the first photo I've taken catching Smoke yawning! So I just had to share!

He was all cozy in the afghan, and then it was time to stretch, and then yawn. But before all that, what caught my eye was this paw peaking out of the covers. So darn sweet!

What I Wore New Treggings

Well, I finally found a pair of pants that I like, and these are a trouser style legging, that they are calling "treggings". These I got at H&M and I am pretty happy with them. They are stretchy but not baggy and the are high waisted, which is a must for me. My only complaint is that they do dip down a bit in the back of the waist. I guess they assume that you have no butt. But I still love them anyway. They also look good with the moto jacket I got for Christmas. It's actually a very warm jacket, so I won't be wearing it much once spring gets here. The weather was low 40s already, so I wore just a tee underneath so I wouldn't be too hot.
Treggings: H&M
Striped tee, moto jacket, and boots: Target
Necklace: not sure
Cat lapel pin: made by me

Throwback Thursday

I'm showing this pic of me and my girl from 2002 to show how much heavier I was back then.  I was a size 16 at my heaviest, and was very unhappy. I knew I had to lose weight, and luckily the health insurance we were on at the time was offering weight loss counseling, so I took advantage of it. It was the best thing I've ever done! I will be frank, I lost the weight and kept it off ever since, because I used the old fashioned way. This included eating more healthy, exercising (which for me was walking on a treadmill) and counting calories. I still exercise every day with the treadmill or low impact aerobics. I don't count calories anymore, so much as keep them in mind when I'm eating.

Now I also try and eat more and more healthier foods, but I haven't given up that much either. I still eat sweets in moderation. I would say for me the best diet has been a Mediterranean diet with less meat and more beans. I don't enjoy drinking my calories, so I'm not into smoothies. And I don't have any problems with allergies, so no giving up wheat for me! Again, I believe that you can enjoy what you want as long as you eat everything in moderation and try to get as varied a diet as you can. My current goal is to eat more varied vegetables. I just found out I love butternut squash that has been roasted! Roasting gives veggies a sweet taste! I also have to say that I'm on a medication for my hypothyroidism, which can add about 10 pounds to my weight if I'm not on it. But the rest is about diet and exercise. I got down to a size 6, but right now I"m about an 8 or 10 depending, and I'm pretty happy with that.
So there you have it, my story on weight loss. If you have any questions, let me know! Bye for now!

This Makes Me Happy

I am so excited to start decorating for Spring and Easter! Of course, it doesn't hurt that it is supposed to get in the 40s by this weekend! I'll have spring fever for sure. So here is a little vintage duck planter that I found some years ago. It adds a bright spot of color in my kitchen don't you think?

What I'm Working On

Lately I've been antsy to get some things done, like making a new pair of slippers. I'm using this pattern.  One down and one to go!

And I was hungry for chocolate chip cookies over Valentine's Day so I tried this recipe, and they are really great! Yum!

And with Valentines over, I am ready to get out the Easter decorations! Which means.........................

I have been working on some cute lapel pins for Spring/Easter! Can you guess what they will be?

What I Wore for Valentine's Day

For Valentine's Day I wore my new red dress, which was also my Valentine's gift from my honey.
But because it was extremely cold, I had to do a white blouse underneath. I added my OTK boots, black belt and black heart pin (from my shop). This week I was dancing to the sounds of Nat King Cole, very romantic!

This Makes Me Happy

I thought this week I would start a new tradition that I will be calling "This Makes Me Happy". I wanted to share some of my favorite finds both new and old, thrifted or store bought. Today I'm sharing a new red dress my husband bought for me as an early Valentines gift. I've been wanting a red dress for some time, so when I spotted this at H&M for $18 I knew it was a great find. So guess what I'll be wearing this weekend? Although I may be layering it heavily as it's supposed to be very cold this weekend! Bye for now!
