Thrifty Finds

I haven't been thrifting as much lately,
but I did find this adorable mini wooden shoe
at a garage sale for 50 cents!
Just couldn't pass it up!

Tip of the Week

Here's a little tip for storing patterns.
I found that once I took a pattern out of the envelope,
it was a pain to get back in.
So I simply slid the pattern pieces and envelope
into a freezer size baggie.
It works perfectly!
Now if I have any altered pieces,
I can keep those with the original pattern.
And of course it keeps them dry and clean.
Hope you like this idea!

Too Hot and Too Dry!

 It's gotten realllly hot here,
like 105 heat index hot!
Even the squirrel it dragging!

And we haven't had any rain for awhile,
so I'm dreaming about
maybe getting a nice little storm.
These are pix I took early this month.

I love this cute cat artwork
by Snorkus.

I also adore this tapestry from
Earthbound Trading.
Patchwork Owl Tapestry from Earthbound! Perfect dorm decor. 100% cotton and an EB exclusive design.

And I'd really like to try making this hat,
it's supposed to be for beginners.
The last hat I tried was a major fail!

Thrift Store Finds

 Found at the thrift:
Some lovely brown calico.

 A vintage bandana print skirt.

 And this vintage vanity!
I didn't get a pic before I started painting it, sorry,
but it was a dark wood finish.
In it's purple and gold finish,
it will be going to my daughter's room.
I couldn't believe my luck at finding one so soon,
and it only cost me $14!

Nature Makes Me Happy

 Baby dandelions are so cheerful.
Willow leaf shadows are so dreamy.
Spider webs look magical in sunlight.
Owls look mysterious at dusk.

Belt DIY

  Today I will show how
I made the belt from my outfit above.
I found this stiff ribbon
at the thrift.
It's meant to be embroidered,
and I may do that yet.
But for now I left it plain.
It just happened to be the right length to fit around my waist,
so no trimming.
I also found a bunch of belt buckles
at the thrift,
that I've been dying to use.

So I simply looped the belt through,
and overlapped,
then sewed in place.
I used a scallop stitch (on the machine)
to pretty it up.
Then I folded over the hem on the other end
and gave it the same decorative stitch.
I'm sure a plain straight stitch would work fine too.

It did have creases in it from being wrapped around the cardboard,
but once I put it on you didn't notice that at all!
I really loved how it turned out,
and it only took a few minutes to make.
I think any stiff ribbon would work,
like a grograin maybe.
Bye for now!

A Few More Pix from the Farm

Here are more pix I took at Eidem Farm
including one of the windmill above.
And a quiet porch to sit on.
 Peeking out the barn door.
And one more shot of the cutest goat,
a fix of cute for the weekend.

A Trip to the Farm

We went to a historical working farm
the other day
called Eidem Farm.
They had free admission that day and
a farmer's market.
Above is the farm house, built in the late 1800's.
 It's pretty neat inside,
that's my girl checking out the old fashioned dresser.
And of course the old stove,
which they still use for demonstrations.
For holiday tours, they will cook and bake on it.
I would love to go to the Halloween or Christmas one.
 Here's the barn.
They had one goat that was so cute and friendly.
 Inside the barn looking up.

I grew up on a farm,
so it was fun to show my girl
a bit about farm life.
Like the pump below,
I got to show her how to pump water,
that was one of my jobs as a kid.
Bye for now!
